Let's find out
what God expects us to do when someone cries out for
help
A check list for
help
Tragically
in just one week of February 2008
There
have been four school shootings
So what's the right
thing to do if someone tells you that they're thinking of something
serious like committing suicide? God expects us
to not spread gossip and to hold our tongue when someone tells
us something out of confidence. But if it involves the possibility
of anyone getting hurt. It is our moral responsibility to tell
the right people whenever there is danger involved and God expects
us to have a mental checklist of what to do.
When someone
tells you that there thinking of committing suicide, copying
Columbine, or if someone is abusing them at home, etc... Don't just
start spreading this around to everyone at school, It may escalate
matters worst before you can tell the right people who can do
something about it. And if they did bring a gun to school, they
may single you out for spreading it all around to everyone at
school.
Tell the
principal, a teacher, a counselor, the school resource
personnel, a parent, an adult, a police officer, or your
pastor.
Sometimes when
someone is telling us something serious like this, there reaching
out for help.
Ask yourself what if
this person carried out this act that there sharing with me. What if
this were true. Could I have done something about it.When I was in
Jr. High school one of my teachers and a truant officer were both
shot with a handgun and one of them died by the hands of a young man
on campus. Nobody knew what was on this young mans mind at the time.
Remember that there are over one million suicides committed every
year. Consider it a blessing from God when you are in a
position that defines who you are.
It is our moral
responsibility to make a difference and help save someone's life or
to stop them from being abused. You will be blessed by God for
it!
Pastors Note: Someone
trying to end their life or someone else's is not a unique
experience to me. If you are a believer and are saved Satan cannot
touch you. But Satan can try to use other people to end your
life. Years ago a co-worker of mine was
going to give me a ride to pick up my car that was at the auto
garage. He offered me a ride because just last night he and his wife
had a big argument at the campground that our construction crew was
staying at and I was there to stop him from hitting his wife with a
large piece of firewood. So here I was the next day enjoying the
ride he offered me to the auto shop. On the way there, my co-worker
started to physically cry and express his grief that his marriage
was over and that he had no reason to live anymore. He said that he
was going to end his life right now and crash the car into the ditch
at a very high speed.
The part of his
grief that left me more stunned that he was going to kill himself
was that I happened to be in the car and he did not care if he took
my life with his. I prayed silently to God to protect us from harm. The
bottom line was that he stopped the car so that I could talk to him.
Then I took his car keys first and then talked to him about his life
is worth living. Then I drove his car to the auto garage and he was
all right after that. I shared this true story with you to say this.
When someone is trying to kill them self and their filled with
grief, they will try to take other lives with them. Satan will make
sure of that. That's why you have to tell someone who can help this
person. The life you save may very well be your own.
“The Lord is good, a refuge in
times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.” Nahum
