A class debate
on a quote from "The Scarlet Letter"
Does sin weaken our Faith?
By Amanda
Cartwright
" Our quote is"...such loss of faith
is ever one of the saddest results of sin." We disagree
with this quote. We believe that when you sin, if you're a true
believer of God, that the end result is that you'll become closer to
God. People who have faith, who believe in God, who believe in
Heaven and Hell, try not to sin. But we all sin. An example to show
that even Jesus recognizes that we sin is Mary Magdalene. Back in
biblical times, Mary Magdalene was being stoned for committing
adultery. Jesus stood in front of Mary and told the men who were
stoning her, "Ye who is without sin, cast the first stone." What He
is saying is that all human beings sin because we are imperfect, and
who are they to judge her for her own sins. God will forgive you for
your sins if you repent. Usually when people sin, depending on how
big the sin is, they feel guilty and ashamed. They repent for their
sins by doing good, self-less deeds. If people can take their guilt
and turn it around to make them stronger so that the next time
they're faced with the decision to sin they're strong enough not to,
then ultimately they become closer to God; they become purer,
stronger in God, and they have more reverence for
Him."
'Ye who is without sin, cast the
first stone." John 8:7
